Press Release: Céphale et Procris

February 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th at 7pm plus Matinee on 11th at 2.30pm
The Cockpit, Gateforth Street, London NW8 8EH

Ensemble OrQuesta returns to The Cockpit with a baroque opera by French Female composer Elizabeth Jacquet de La Guerre. Ensemble OrQuesta are one of the leading baroque opera companies in the UK. They are known for their minimalist productions using physical theatre and imaginative staging, aligned with fiery baroque playing. Their 2021 production of Alcina was No. 4 in Fiona Maddocks ‘Best of Classical Music in 2021’ in ‘The Observer’.

They will feature in the 2023 Monteverdi Festival in Cremona, Italy. This will be the Céphale et Procris’ UK debut. Ensemble OrQuesta has produced a new edition of this opera for this occasion. The opera tells the tragic love story of Céphale and Procris. Procris has been promised to Borrée, but is in love with Céphale. Aurore, also in love with Céphale, tries to plot against the couple. The opera features feminist subjects which are very much relevant today.

Ensemble OrQuesta productions invite the audience to think about these subjects by presenting a unique interpretation of the story, on this occasion through the stunning music by Jacquet de la Guerre. Céphale et Procris 23 (ensembleorquesta.com) team@ensembleorquesta.com
